Flow Maps
Flow mapping is an upgrade on Railcrew Xpress mapping tools. Flow maps are the first step in using technology to better understand what happened in a vehicle movement, in order to better close trips and shifts with high accuracy.

Links on the side bar show various mapping options. Click on the category of "map" to expand these options, then select an option to view that map.
FAQ's
- What happened to my other mapping options:
- Mapping from logistrics and dashboard will be replaced by Flow maps.
- What timezone is the map displaying in:
- If you simply open the map and request a vehicle, the map will display in the users local (computer or device timezone) timezone. If you'd like to change this time zone to better align with a customer or research need, there is a drop down above the history map which changes the timezone display.
- Loading a map from dashboard will automatically populate the timezone based on the timezone of the trip.
Current Vehicle Location Map
This map shows to the last known location provided by GPS for all vehicles marked "active" in the RCX system.
By zooming into the map and/or clicking on a specific vehicle, you can zoom to the level of that specific vehicle. Single clicking on the vehicle will provide additional vehicle information, include the vehicle's last update time, and last know speed and heading (direction of travel). Clicking on the unit number in this popup will take you to the vehicle history map, and default to the last 24 hours of activity the vehicle has recorded via GPS. If GPS is missing or in error, this is likely a result of Lytx camera issues. Please contact the Fleet department to have them resolve the camera issue.
Vehicle History
Vehicle history will show the vehicles activity, up to 24 hours at a time. There are two key items to note in the history map, which are new to RCX mapping. First, the left panel displays the vehicles route. Critically, it also displays the numbered stop, showing the order of each stop. These numbered stops correspon to the ID in the grid on the right side.
The grid shows condensed details of the vehicle history by moving and stopped activities. Rather than having to check each point to determine if the vehicle is moving or stopped, one can check the grid.
Clicking on grid item in the flow map will cause it to zoom to a single activity row on the map. This provides specific information on the movement (or stop) for those activities.
To return to the entire trip, select the button "Show All Segments" in the upper right of the page, immediately above the activity grid.
To see only stops or movements, one can select the check boxes above the map. Hovering with the mouse over a specific point will provide the time, and the vehicle speed and direction.
Mapping from Dashboard and Logistrics
Mapping from other Railcrew systems will be replaced with Flow mapping. This consolidates to a single mapping solution that can be continually improved, and reduced costs on mapping. The Flow map also provides an analytically summary in addition to the map alone.
When clicking from dashboard, the dashboard will automatically populate the start datetime and end datetime based on the events of the trip. Dashboard also populates the timezone displayed based on the timezone indicated on the trip. All points will be displayed in this timezone, regardless if the vehicle crosses into or out of a timezone boundary.
To see more of the mapping, you can adjust the trip start and/or end events as needed. Most of the time, a trip should start and stop on a "stop" event, so adjusting the trip times to match flow data is highly recommended.
